01 Method 1: Burning Test (On-site Rapid Identification)

This is the most intuitive and quickest method: simply take a small sample and ignite it with a lighter. Note, however, that this method works poorly for blended materials and carries certain safety risks.

Flame ColorPale yellow / light yellowBlueMedium-High
OdorBurnt wool & fingernail odor (Both produce this smell, hard to distinguish)Burnt wool & fingernail odorLow
Melt DrawingCapable of filament drawing; drawn fiber does not shrinkCapable of filament drawing; fiber shrinks noticeably upon coolingMedium
Combustion BehaviorYellow flame tip with blue base, molten dripping, foamingYellow flame tip with blue base, molten dripping, foaming

02 Method 2: Professional Instrument Testing (Precision Laboratory Identification)

For disputed cases or applications with stringent requirements, precise chemical composition analysis relying on professional instruments is required, with an accuracy rate close to 100%.

Principle

Advantages
Melting Point / Thermal Analysis (DSC)PA6 and PA66 have distinct melting points: PA6 melts at 215–225 °C, while PA66 ranges from 255–265 °C. Precise identification can be achieved via DSC testing.Test normally completed within 1–2 days; fast and reliable, an effective method for authenticity verification.
Pyrolysis & Spectroscopic AnalysisAdopt GC-MS, FTIR and other instruments to analyze characteristic fingerprint spectra of small pyrolytic fragments or specific functional group absorption peaks (e.g., amide bonds) generated under high temperature, enabling accurate differentiation of nylon grades.

Authoritative test results, acceptable as arbitration evidence.

03 Method 3: Physical Observation Method (Auxiliary Identification via Appearance Inspection)

This method serves only as a preliminary screening measure and cannot be adopted as the final judgment basis.

Cross-section Inspection (Most Intuitive):

The fractured cross-section after snapping the material is critical for quality assessment. Premium-grade nylon features a flat, smooth fracture surface free of black spots, white specks and air bubbles. Inferior nylon shows rough, delaminated cross-sections or obvious impurity particles.

Visual Appearance Check:

High-quality PA6/PA66 pellets deliver favorable glossiness. If finished products have uneven surfaces, faint orange-peel texture or prickly feel caused by exposed glass fiber (GF-filled material), the raw material is likely recycled or substandard.
