Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) is a high-performance engineering plastic characterized by excellent mechanical properties, thermal resistance, chemical resistance, and low moisture absorption. It is well-suited for precision components and ranks among the best material choices for micro-motors and high-frequency signal connectors. It can also be used in robotics.

Electronic components such as servo motor connectors.

A key performance characteristic of liquid crystal polymers (LCPs) is their molecular structure. These polymers are composed of rigid, rod-like macromolecules. When an LCP melt is subjected to shear or tensile flow—just as occurs in the processing of all thermoplastic plastics—these rigid macromolecules spontaneously align into fibrillar and microfibrillar states, which then become frozen upon cooling of the melt. This is how the solid-state liquid crystal polymer morphology takes shape. In fact, the morphology of LCP arrays closely resembles that of wood, with fibers of the same polymer interlocking with one another. For this reason, these polymers are also referred to as self-reinforcing polymers. Fiber orientation increases as wall thickness decreases; consequently, polymers with thinner walls exhibit higher tensile and flexural moduli.
